El Rosario: A Library, A Community, A Vision

Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca – 2025

A new photo book titled El Rosario offers an intimate portrait of a community-driven revolution unfolding in the hills of southern Mexico. Created by the independent nonprofit Ayzoh!, this work blends poetic documentary writing and powerful photography to tell the story of the Biblioteca Comunitaria El Rosario—a grassroots library built with adobe and hope.

Far more than a building, the library has become a catalyst for literacy, environmental awareness, cultural celebration, and social inclusion in Santa Catarina Minas. It is a place where books are not a luxury but a right, where learning is hands-on, collective, and rooted in the rhythms of daily life.

Through its pages, El Rosario reveals a vibrant, resilient, and deeply interconnected community. From language workshops and agave ecology classes to storytelling circles, digital literacy, photography, and cooking sessions, the library redefines what education can be—personal, local, and transformative.

This project is not about helping. It’s about recognizing what’s already alive, beautiful, and revolutionary in places the world often overlooks.
Claudio Maria Lerario, co-founder of Ayzoh!

This publication is more than a tribute. It is a tool for change. All proceeds will support the ongoing work of the library and its partner initiatives, including Proyecto LAM (agroecology and seed preservation) and youth education programs.
