In a bustling corner of Milan, Newoldcamera stands as more than just a photography shop. Founded by Ryuichi Watanabe, this unique space has become a gathering point for photography enthusiasts, professionals, and storytellers alike.
From our first encounter, they have embraced Ayzoh! and our projects with open arms, offering unwavering support without asking for anything in return.
In all these years, we've only ever bought one camera from them. We are not heavy consumers of equipment: we use only what’s necessary to capture our work, and we push our tools to their limits.
And yet, Newoldcamera has never turned away. They’ve given us a place to breathe, to think, to refine our ideas, and — when needed — just to have a simple conversation.
Newoldcamera is, at its core, a celebration of photography. Its environment feels like that of an old-world workshop, where cameras are bought and sold with love, care, and professional expertise.
The staff, a blend of technicians and knowledgeable employees, embody the philosophy of the shop: skillful, thoughtful, and always ready to share their knowledge.
In an era of impersonal online commerce and rapid transactions, Newoldcamera defies the trend. They ask: "What can we do for the future?" Their answer: remain human.
Offer something that the internet cannot: true, personal connections. They remind us that photography, like any art, is deeply human, and through those human bonds, we can keep culture alive / read more...
The team at Newoldcamera approaches photography not merely as a business, but as a cultural force. They recognize the importance of preserving and sharing photographic history as a way to propel ourselves forward, to open new windows on the world.
Today, images are taken and shared more easily than ever, but Newoldcamera asks the important questions: Why do you want to photograph? What will your relationship with that image be?
These questions resonate deeply with us at Ayzoh!. While others may use images to compete for prizes or recognition, we reject the idea that human conditions can be judged or classified. Our work isn’t for critics, galleries or awards; it’s for the communities we document, for the people whose stories we tell. We are not at the center: they are.
This is why we ask ourselves the same questions they do: Why do you want to photograph? What will your relationship with that image be? What is the purpose of these photos? Who do they help? And why? Do they make sense?
Newoldcamera offers more than just equipment: they provide a space to solidify intentions, to create, to grow, and to share. Their magazine, NOC Sensei, is a testament to their commitment to photographic culture, and we’ve been honored to be featured in its pages.
The name Sensei — a beautiful one — captures this spirit perfectly. In Japanese, it means “the one who has gone before,” and in this shop, every customer becomes both a teacher and a student, sharing and learning from each other.
In Newoldcamera, Ayzoh! has found not just friends but a refuge. A place where the human touch prevails, where photography is celebrated not for its competition, but for its power to connect, to resist, and to reveal the hidden corners of our world.
