Angela Altieri McDonald (1963 - 2010) holds a special place in the heart of Ayzoh!, not just as a writer, but as a catalyst for its very existence.
In 2008, Angela profoundly influenced the life of Ayzoh!'s co-founder, Claudio Maria Lerario, encouraging him to abandon a thriving career in photography and instead devote his skills and passion to supporting marginalized communities. This life-changing conversation led to the birth of Ayzoh!, an organization that has since touched countless lives.
Angela's insightful mind and her deep reflections on human nature, as captured in her book L'era della debolezza, resonated deeply with the values of Ayzoh!. She explored themes of vulnerability, human frailty, and the decline of societal values, providing a lens through which to examine the world with both compassion and clarity.
These reflections not only inspired her literary work but also became guiding principles in the formation of Ayzoh!'s mission — one focused on creating authentic, meaningful connections with communities in need.
Her legacy is immortalized not only in her writings but also through a heartfelt tribute by Ayzoh! in the form of a globally recognized documentary, Liberamente Angela - The Energy of Women. This film celebrated Angela’s vibrant spirit, her wisdom, and her ability to empower others, and it further cemented her importance to the organization / read more...
In a poetic and meaningful gesture, Ayzoh! has chosen to honor Angela by marking her final resting place at the Convento di Sant'Andrea in Collevecchio (Rome) on the Unity Map.
Beneath a grand tree, her ashes lie, symbolizing her enduring connection to the earth and to the community she helped to inspire. Her life’s work, friendship, and influence on Ayzoh! will continue to inspire new generations of volunteers and collaborators.
Her written reflection on friendship, in which she meditates on trust, envy, and personal growth, epitomizes her unique outlook on life. She teaches us to cherish the gift of connection, despite its complexities and challenges, and to view life's contradictions as opportunities for transformation.
This wisdom forms the backbone of Ayzoh!'s values and philosophy, making Angela a crucial part of the organization’s soul. Her words and spirit live on in every project, every photograph, and every relationship built through Ayzoh!'s work.
Angela’s message, in its simplicity and profundity, invites us all to remain open to change, to embrace our imperfections, and to approach life with a sense of gratitude and humility — qualities that now guide Ayzoh! in its quest to bring positive change to the world.
