Ricardo Vidargas is a renowned Mexican photographer and activist from San Miguel de Allende, deeply committed to defending the rights of Indigenous communities and fighting against inequality in the country's most impoverished areas.
After a successful 20-year career in New York as a photographer specializing in architectural photography, Ricardo returned to Mexico, where he founded a photography program at an art school.
Back in San Miguel de Allende, he witnessed the aggressive gentrification threatening his hometown and other regions, which inspired him to take a stand and actively defend his community.Together with friends, Ricardo founded Va por SanMiguel AC, a civil association dedicated to protecting his municipality.
In Guanajuato, he is also involved in creating the Autonomous Citizen Water Oversight (Contraloría Ciudadana Autónoma del Agua), a project that promotes community participation in managing water resources, combating water exploitation, and social inequality.
Ricardo’s deep knowledge of Mexico’s small Indigenous communities and his exceptional ability to communicate their struggles and aspirations make him an invaluable collaborator for Ayzoh!.
