Mette Synnøve Bråthe is Ayzoh!’s main point of contact in Norway, especially when working with coastal communities and organizing maritime workshops. Because sailing is not a metaphor. For Mette, it’s a practice, a job, and a way of standing in the world.
As a professional sailmaker and founder of Sybrasail, Mette works where precision is non-negotiable. Her workshop in Isegran—a small island community shaped by shipbuilders, sailors, and wood—has become a trusted place for those who still understand boats as living things. Her hands know how to read fabric, wind, and wear. Nothing in her work is decorative.
Mette doesn’t perform tradition. She lives it. On board the vessels that cross the northern seas, she is at home. Not as a reenactor or symbol, but as part of a chain of knowledge passed from person to person, boat to boat. In Isegran, she’s one of the people who keep that knowledge moving forward without turning it into a museum piece.
Her story is also part of Ayzoh!’s. She was once married to Claudio Maria Lerario, co-founder of Ayzoh!, and together they raised a family shaped by movement, autonomy, and mutual respect. Their relationship changed, but the foundation remained: trust, friendship, and the will to support each other’s work without compromise or nostalgia.
That’s why when Mette set out to promote the maritime culture of Isegran, she turned to Ayzoh!. The result is “Isegran“, a photographic tribute to the island and the people who live and work there. Not a romanticized vision of the sea, but a real one—grounded in skill, community, and time.
