Avere Ubuntu (Having Ubuntu) is a book born from an educational photo workshop for children held by Ayzoh! in Ethiopia. The workshop, which lasted 20 days, was commissioned by LUC (Let Us Change), a small community of Hawassa founded on the principles of Ubuntu.
To create the images, the children used pinhole cameras built by themselves, under our guidance, in rigid cardboard. We have also provided each child with a light meter. The subjects of the photographs were chosen by them.
Later the children developed and printed the images in a darkroom set up for the occasion. Finally, they chose those that, according to them, best identified the place where they live.
