What Camp Erech Box Offers:
A narrative with 100 prints (21 x 15 cm / Color offset printing on quality matte-coated paper / 350 gsm).
The treasure chest. A handcrafted recycled wooden box, thoughtfully designed without a single nail – only eco-friendly glue, weaved connections, and interlocking joints – much like life itself.
Interactive. You can be a vital part of the project; your ideas will be heard and will accompany “Camp Erech” during events and exhibitions in Italy and beyond.
Social. The project is part of a series of community, editorial, and social photography initiatives managed by Ayzoh!, supporting the small local community of Camp Erech. By purchasing the box, you become a small social investor: 100% of the profits go to the causes we are committed to.
Why a collection of prints instead of a photo book?
The entire story revolves around the concepts of self-determination, authenticity, and freedom. That’s why we created an editorial product that, unlike a book, you can use as you please: frame your favorite prints, gift others, mix them based on your mood, or randomly draw them like tarot cards. Of course, you can also keep them organized and flip through them like a book. If needed, references on the back of each print can help you restore order.
Each photograph stems from complete engagement – in every imaginable condition – of Giulia and Claudio in the daily life of Camp Erech. We present the prints in what we consider a “treasure chest” rather than a simple “box” because every moment captured in the images is precious, authentic, rare, and laden with meaning.
Behind each print lies a text. After the essential preface to describe the spirit and intent of the project, you’ll find the words of a revered author, cherished by both us and Yahya, providing symbolic guidance throughout this journey: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Proceeding are reflections from Giulia and Claudio, who, despite their numerous reportages worldwide, were deeply moved in their own ways by what they experienced during this project. Later, a conversation with Yahya where he narrates his evolution: from the man he was – the one he “would never want to meet today” – to the person he has become. The original texts alternate with quotes from writers, artists, and humanists who held significance in Yahya’s, Giulia’s, and Claudio’s lives.
The Final Question
Everything is narrated through the desert’s geography, leading to a final question inspired by Saint-Exupéry’s words, encapsulating the essence of this story, to which, if you wish, you can respond. We will listen.
Camp Erech is the work of Ayzoh!’s photographers: Giulia Zhang and Claudio Maria Lerario. They wrote the original texts and curated the selection of various authors’ quotes. The chest is entirely designed and handcrafted by Ubaldo Samuelli, Ayzoh!’s design department head.
We extend our gratitude to the individuals and entities who supported this project, listed at the end of the text. Your support has been invaluable in bringing Camp Erech to life.
